A little of my history

It all started in 1982 after a short time working in the piano department in House of Fraser store in Glasgow as a Saturday boy. Being more interested in the inside of the piano rather then playing it I came to London to attend the London College of Furniture to gain the Btec and City & Guilds qualification in piano technology.

During college holiday times I worked for Peter Smith & Son pianos in Paisley, just outside Glasgow. A very busy shop with large workshops.

After college in 1985, employed by Blüthner pianos (a part of Whelpdale, Maxwell & Codd) to complete my training.

The Blüthner repair works based in Perivale, West London restored mainly Blüthner pianos, involving complete strip downs, new soundboards, tuning planks, strings and every possible action part restored.

After just over a year of further training I was deemed capable of tuning for a concert so I was sent to The Place theatre in the Euston area of London to carry out my first concert tuning.

I was approached by Bösendorfer Pianos in Wigmore Street, London and offered the position of Senior Technician which I accepted with excitement! After spending three months at the factory in Vienna under the watchful eye of George Kolasis,  I was responsible for all the concert stock and the showroom pianos. This was a very busy time travelling the country and working in just about every concert hall in London and looking after the entire showroom stock. However, eventually the recession hit and Bösendorfer London closed its doors. Becoming freelance kept me just as busy and soon found myself looking after all the pianos in the P&O Cruises fleet of ships - often travelling round the world on board with the Classical Music Themed Cruises with Richard Baker from the BBC. In addition to P&O I was travelling to Harwich Port to look after the pianos on the Royal Caribbean Ships when they were over here.

After the contract ended it was time to rethink life!

Now relocated to the Cambridge area but still travelling around the country and working with many concert halls, studios and of course, for you! Call me at no charge to you on the 0800 number!
